Newark International Airport (USA)
Phase 2
1998 - 2001
The objective of the second phase of the Newark monorail was the connection of the monorail system at Newark Airport
with the north-east corridor (major train link to New York).
The extension of the monorail system from the Airport to the new Air Train Rail Link Station included the purchasing, manufacturing, installing, testing and commissioning of all required subsystems without interrupting the operation of the original system.
Logplan played a major role in the project management, testing and commissioning of the extension project, interface controlling with the base system and contract closure. The Monorail extension project successfully started to operate for public service in April 2002.
Phase 1
1995 - 1998
The objective of the first phase of the Newark Monorail project was to install a two-mile dual guideway monorail that would link the three main terminals and four passenger stations. The system installation began in 1993 by Von Roll which after numerous acquisitions is now part of Bombardier Transportation.
Logplan was contracted in 1995 to take responsibility of project management tasks in order to meet the opening date in 1996. Logplan was given the lead for project control (scheduling and progress control) and for technical assistance regarding testing and commissioning tasks. With Logplan's assistance, the Newark International Airport Monorail system successfully started public service in May 1996. From 1996 till 1998, Logplan advised and assisted in the development of operations and emergency procedures. Logplan was also responsible for performance of day by day system analysis to improve the maintenance process and the overall system performance.
