Denver International Airport (USA)
In-line 100% Baggage Screening System
2002 - 2005
In December 2001, Logplan was selected to develop a system for 100% explosive detection screening of checked baggage.
The project at Denver includes the evaluation of alternative locations, recommendation of solutions, detailed design,
supporting the airport with the coordination of airline tenants, supporting the airport interface with the TSA,
bid specifications, detailed bid documents, construction management, commissioning, and system testing.
The entire airport began operation with the automated in-line system in June 2005 when the last terminal modules came on line. The system as designed and installed allows for changes in equipment and protocols for up to a five level system. Due to the system's advanced design and flexibility, the TSA has designated the system located in Module 3 East as a test site for in-line automated EDS / baggage handling systems.
Temporary 100% Baggage Screening Solution
2002 - 2003
In 2002, Logplan developed a simulation tool to determine the impact on the check-in lobbies at Denver International
Airport resulting from the U.S. Congress mandated 100% checked baggage screening requirements. This simulation tool
demonstrated that lobby screening would adversely impact the operation of the airport to the point that the lobby could
not hold the people during a normal peak period. The simulation tool allowed for the study of various combinations of
screening techniques and locations that resulted in a solution that minimized the impact on airport operations. The
simulation tool allowed DIA to understand the impact and provide the airport with the best of a bad situation prior
to the beginning of construction and the associated disruption of ticket counter operation.
