Extension of the International Arrival Area
2005
Due to increased demand from international flights, Denver International Airport (DIA) needed to expand the international
arrival area. DIA selected Logplan to develop a plan to address the anticipated increase in capacity. The first phase of
this expansion was completed in 2006 and included the adding of an additional baggage claim carousel. The second phase
will include the relocation and expansion of the immigration area and an additional fourth claim carousel.
Logplan's work scope included the feasibility studies, the layout planning including the evaluation and optimization of the layout. Logplan also developed a simulation model to determine the point in time to implement the different phases of the expansion plan, based on a forecast of future airport growth projections.
Temporary 100% Baggage Screening Solution
2002 - 2003
In 2002, Logplan developed a simulation tool to determine the impact on the check-in lobbies at Denver International Airport
resulting from the U.S. Congress mandated 100% checked baggage screening requirements. This simulation tool demonstrated
beyond any doubt that the imposition of this screening process would adversely impact the operation of the airport to the
point that the lobby could not hold the people during a normal peak period. The simulation tool allowed for the study of
various combinations of screening techniques and locations that resulted in a solution that minimized the impact on airport
operations. The simulation tool was an integral part of to find a temporary solution until the automated in line system could
be built.
